How to kill the process running on any specific port in windows?

In this post, we will look at how can we kill a process running on any specific port in windows. If you are a developer, then often, you would have found this error message:

Port 80 in use by “Unable to open process”!

Follow the below steps to kill the process.

Step 1 : Start command prompt as an Administrator. Then run the below mention command.

netstat -ano | findstr : 8080

It will display the PID(Process Identifier) value as shown below:

PID value for an app running on TCP port


Step 2 : Then you execute the below command with the PID value.

taskkill /PID 32348 /F

You will receive a success message on successfully killing the process as shown below:
